Eco Discovery Challenge, Hybrid Customers, News, Sales, National Dealer's Convention, Honda Academy

For the first time in Malaysia, Honda Civic Hybrid owners competed against each other to win the Civic Hybrid Eco Discovery Challenge, a special event organised by Honda Malaysia in January, 2010.

The rules were simple – each team of four members had to race through different locations to complete several challenges to win. Prizes worth up to RM9,000 were at stake but the challenge wasn’t just about speed; it was also about being quickminded. And to up the ante, Civic Hybrid owners with optimal fuel efficiency recorded would win exclusive Honda merchandise.

The 18 teams that participated had an early start at Holiday Inn Glenmarie, Shah Alam, to finish an eco quiz before they whizzed off with their Civic Hybrids to complete the challenges awaiting them at Forest Research Institute Malaysia (FRIM), Kepong;

Nur Laman Bestari Eco Camp, Ulu Yam; Orchid Farm at Gohtong Jaya, Pahang; and Zoo Negara, Taman Melawati.

The teams were split into two groups to start their challenges at FRIM and Zoo Negara separately, and each had to move to the next location, completing the cycle of challenges before returning to the hotel. The team with the best time and least points recorded would win. Despite being a first for many teams, the participants swiftly turned pulp into paper during the paper recycling challenge at FRIM, and even got soiled and drenched while retrieving objects from a river at Ulu Yam. Yet, all teams gamely journeyed uphill to Gohtong Jaya to re-pot orchids and solve clues under the scorching heat at Zoo Negara.

After clocking in more than 120km from the adventure, Mr. Ma Lam Fatt and his team were the lucky winners who took home the grand prize despite suffering a flat tyre at the start of the race. The other winning teams were led by Mr. Lee Joo Leong and Mrs. Serena Kong who won 2nd and 3rd prizes respectively.

“The event was a great opportunity for us owners to experience the true potential of our vehicles. Contrary to popular beliefs, the Civic Hybrid has more than sufficient power while being a fun and safe ride,” said Mr. Ma upon claiming the top prize.

The day’s adventure revealed the competitive spirit among the ecoconscious Civic Hybrid owners but not without having heaps of fun, as shared by Ms. Rozita, “I absolutely loved the challenges Honda Malaysia organised for us! It is great getting to know other owners and I made a lot of friends. Most of all, I finally tested my Civic Hybrid’s limits and I must say its engine and fuel performance are impressive.”

The Civic Hybrid Eco Challenge was organized by Honda Malaysia as a fun day out to encourage owners to discover and experience nature while learning what they can do to live sustainably. The event resonates with Honda’s long-standing commitment to be a company that society wants to exist.


200,000th & beyond

Forging ahead from the 200,000th customer mark,

Honda Malaysia targets to hit 40,000 units of sales in 2010 In December 2009, Honda Malaysia registered its 200,000th customer since its debut less than a decade ago. Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Toru Takahashi said, “Since its establishment in 2001, Honda Malaysia has progressed and improved incessantly in order to fulfil the evolving needs and demands of the Malaysian public. And thanks to the support and trust we garnered from our loyal customers, business partners and associates,

Honda has grown to be one of the most preferred choices among Malaysians.” In spite of the economic contraction and automobile market shrinkage in 2009, the company achieved its highest record of sales surpassing its target of 35,000 units. In its relentless strive for excellence, Honda Malaysia raised its targets to achieve 40,000 units of sales in 2010 along with the anticipated healthier economic conditions.


Mr. Takahashi assured that the company will continue to uphold its Customer Satisfaction No. 1 policy as they move

forward. “We are even more committed to strive further in providing products, sales and after-sales services of the

highest quality yet at a reasonable price to our customers. It is also our utmost priority to contribute back to society

wherever we operate through our Corporate Social Responsibility projects such as the Honda Dreams Fund and

December 10th 2009 – the night where 192 representatives from all 58 Honda dealerships nationwide gathered to attend the esteemed annual National Dealer’s Convention held at The Ritz-Carlton, Kuala Lumpur.

This is the time of the year where all the dealerships congregate together with Honda Malaysia to assess, evaluate, and reposition themselves collectively towards the company’s philosophy and mission. “Fundamental to our beliefs is the Respect for the Individual and The Three Joys which are the Joy of Buying, Selling and Creating,” said Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Honda Malaysia, Mr. Toru Takahashi, in his opening speech.

After weathering through difficult times, this year’s National Dealer’s Convention proudly carried the theme “Raise Our Spirits High”, empowering dealers and representatives to keep pushing themselves and their own limits and boundaries in order to not only be prepared but also to rise above any further challenges the coming year may bring.

The agenda of the night placed much emphasis on quality improvement, customer’s trust and loyalty towards achieving “Customer Satisfaction No. 1”. During the awards ceremony, Honda Malaysia rewarded and paid tribute to the stellar representatives and dealerships throughout the nation. In acknowledgement of the best in the network this year, apart from the coveted “Dealer of the Year” award going to Ban Hoe Seng Sdn. Bhd., the “Sales Advisor of the Year” award was honoured to the Top 15 Sales Advisors nationwide.

Honda Opens European Training Centre in Germany

Honda opened its European training centre recently in Erlensee, Hesse. Given the pressures of the state of the global economy, some companies in the automotive industry are forced to undertake contingency plans. Honda, however, with a hefty investment of approximately 15 million euros, has taken a confident stride in making a clear commitment to its operations in Germany. The new Honda Academy, that took 9 months to complete, will be the training hub for all sales associates and service personnel of Honda partners across its full range of products throughout Europe.

“The Academy is not only useful to present our latest products and technologies. We have to listen to and respect each customer’s individual concerns and to help establish a good relationship with them, built on trust. The Academy’s mission is to help every associate at Honda to learn how to serve each individual customer better,” said President of Honda Motor Europe Ltd., Mr. Shigeru Takagi.

Even during challenging times and against all odds, with the launch of Honda Academy, Honda further solidifies its stand on the strict emphasis and great importance it places in customer satisfaction and service that will continue to be built upon with its targeted training courses.
